Verdant
WWL +1 exhibition
at Craft Central Gallery
27th-31st May 2015
This year our theme was verdant, because we wanted to make this exhibition have a feel of late spring into early summer.
By late May a long grey winter feels like a distant past and it is uplifting to see the lush green of leaves deepening. We wanted to capture the joy of the season and celebrate the amazing power of nature that gives us so much inspiration.
For this exhibition Kaori has designed a series of striking vases using new glazes to bring some plants and flowers indoors to enjoy. Kaori and Maiko were together designing new hanging plant pots. Maiko’s new collection is bright coloured, generously sized leather bags. They are designed to take to picnics and to farmers markets, and can also be used as a stylish storage solution. Yoriko has made some rings with emerald for this exhibition. Her understated pieces are designed not to stand out, but complement the wearer. Mica has made light linen gingham and silk and wool textured scarves to wear from spring into summer.
We have also made some experimental brooches combining leather, ceramics and textiles. This was a fun project for all of us.
As ever we enjoy designing and making things that last, as we believe in consuming less, and owning fewer items of what we really like. We believe sustainability is important, and we need a shift from mass consumption of products that we are constantly replacing. We hope you will find something you like in our Verdant exhibition.
